Mountain adventures are one of the most sought adventure activities by the adventure traveller. There are many forms of Mountain adventure like Trekking, River Rafting, Paragliding, Mountain Biking, Motor Sports etc. One of the most favourite of all adventure sport is trekking or hiking the whole of northern Indian Himalaya is a perfect destination or simply call it trekkers paradise. Ranging from few meters to 7000 meters. The trekking is classified according to grade which ranges from Challenging, strenuous, moderate and easy. Easy grade can be enjoyed by anyone who leads a reasonable active life. No special training or skills are required. Moderate grade requires reasonable level of fitness one need to cope up with the rigors of walking up to 4-5 hours usually steep track. Strenuous are those track where one have to walk more than 6 hours or long and is difficult through rough terrain an often altitude is higher one need to have good stamina & physical fitness. Challenging requires to be extremely fit involves some of the steepest ascents & descents with having altitude more than 4000 meters.

14 to 20 kms of rough tough and wonderful views every day for 10 days the trek will lead you from Padum in Zanskar with Lamayuru in Ladakh. At several points you will visit :  Sani Gompa,  Karsha Gompa, Lingshed Gompa and Lamayuru Gompa. You will reach as high as 5100 mtrs , the path crosses several passes  Perfi La, Hunuma La 4800 mtrs, Sengge La 5060 meters, Sirsir La  and Prinkiti La. As you cross old pack horse trail, shepherds track, and ancient route.  The route crosses rivers of  Tsarap, Doda, Zanskar and Indus.

What to Expect

One can always remember that the trekking in Ladakh is not a child’s play one should be physically fit for doing this. The temperature variation in Ladakh is too much the day temperature can be 25° C where as in the night the temperature can plump up to 5-10°C. It is said about Ladakh that if you keep your body in sunshine the portion will get sunburn and the portion of your body in shade will get frost bite such is the difference of temperature due to thin atmosphere due to high altitude. The next thing very important is to get acclimatized particularly if you are flying to Leh. Best way is to take Manali-Leh highly route reached in 2 days is best way to get acclimatized naturally. Properly keep hydrated yourself take a good light quality water bottle with you. Trekking at normal pace is good and take your own time.

  • The level of trekking is strenuous.
  • The regions are completely a paradise and you would love to have captured throughout the trek it’s very essential to have high-capacity power bank. Do to use waste battery reviewing your pics.
  • There is no network in these regions hence to prevent battery draining you should keep you phone on airplane mode.
  • A pair of hiking shoes, 3 pair of t shirts, 4 pair of undies, 3-4 pair of socks, fleece jackets, Rain Jacket, Thermal, flip flops, waterproof backpack 80 liters, waterproof camera pouch, quick dry towels, water bottles.
  • Purification tabs or drops, walking sticks, Mattress, torch or head lamps.
  • Sunscreen with 50+, sunglasses, blister care, sanitizer.
  • Medical kit: Band aids, antibacterial gel or powder, diarrhea tabs, headaches tabs, bandage, antiseptic etc.
Day 01: Fly to Leh from New Delhi/Mumbai.

Upon arrival full day for acclimatization Simple walk the bazaar & lanes of Leh.

Day 02: Leh

After breakfast proceed for sight seeing in around. Visit Thiksey, Shey, Hemis, Stok palace. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Leh – Kargil  Drive to Kargil by INNOVA/SUMO/BOLERO via Lamayuru

After an early breakfast depart to Kargil crossing behind we pass Khalsi , Alchi and Lamayuru. Lamayuru far below the road, mysterious and oldest Lamayuru monastery in Ladakh region. A short ascent beyond lies Fotu la pass 4080 mtrs.

Passing through Bodh Kharbu we cross over Namiki-la (3’718m.). and descent to Mulbekh village. Which has a huge image of the Maitriya (Buddha of future) carved out on the rock. And finally road descent to Suru river. Crossing by bridge arrive at Kargil. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 04: Kargil – Padum  (Drive by SUMO/INNOVA/BOLERO)

We suggest you to leave eary morning passing through the beautifull village in Suru valley we drive through the base of Nun Kun peaks (7’150m.). and crossing the plains arrive at Rangdum gompa. climb to Pensi-la (4’402m.) .

And we drive along the Doda river. A vast stretches of solitary all along the route. Evening arrive at Padum. Overnight stay in hotel or camp.

Day 05: Padum — Karsha (10,890 ft/3,320 m) 4/5 hrs. trek

From here we will begin our trek a relatively sorter trek towards Pipiting, a dusty plain towards the Doda river. A new bridge over the Doda river, cross it and walk up to wards Karsha Monastery. Visit the Monastery, which is of Gelukpas section, and have a good view of the valley. Karsha is the biggest Monastery in Zanskar region, having 150 monks of the yellow section. Camp at Karsha.

Day 06: Karsha — Pishu (3660m) 5 hrs. trek

Leave camp and walk along the left bank of Zanskar River. Above Rinam, small stream an shelter formed by the rocks. See the Thongde monastery on the right side of Zanskar River. Trail further will take you to the Pishu village. A very attractive campsite below the village of Pishu.

Day 07: Pishu – Hanumil (3650m) 5/6 hrs. trek

Leave camp early continue left bank, some times along the river. A bridge before Pidmo, then another 2 hours to the campsite of Hanumil

Day 08: Hanumil — Perfila (4650mt.) – Snertse (3940mt.) 6 hrs. trek(3650m) 5/6 hrs. trek

This day also continue on the left bank of the Zanskar River. Cross Small stream on the left, the trail leads away from the edge of the Zanskar and the up to the foot of pass. Steep and difficult climb to perfi-la (4560mt.), after pass steep descent to Uma –Chhu River, cross bridge and up to 500mt. On sandy slope, then one and half hour to the campsite of Snertse.

Day 09: Snerste — Hanumala (4800m.) — Ling shed (4100m.) 7/8 hrs. trek

This day will be very long gradual ascent to the pass of Hanuma-la (4800m.) through gorges and half hour to reach the pass from the camp. A 1000mt. Long descent towards, then another 250m. Climb for narrow pass, from pass easy walking to the campsite of Lingshed.

Day 10: Lingshed – Gazo or base camp Sengge – la (13,090 ft/3,990 m) 6 hrs. trek

An hour of easy climb to Netoski –la (4475m.). Lovely view of Nerag, on the other bank of Zanskar River. Gradual descent to the villages of Gongma and Skiumpata. Cross small stream and hour steep climb to pass of Kuba-la (4520mt.) Slowly climb to the campsite of Gazo or foot of Sengge –la.

Day 11: Base camp Sengge-la – Sengge –la (5060mt.) – Photoksar (4400m.) 6/7 hrs. trek

From camp two hours of steep climb to Sengge-La pass, (5060m.) then easy descent to the valley. Short climb to Bhumiktse-la (4520mt.) descent towards Photoksar, a beautiful village at the base of huge mountain wall, cross the bridge and camp near the stream.

Day 12: Photoksar – Sir sir-la (4965m.)- Hanupatta (4070mt.) 5/6 hrs. trek

Long ascent of the sir sir-la (4965mt.) then easy descent to the river, cross the river by bridge and walk along the left bank. Camping before Hanupatta village.

Day 13: Hanupatta – Wanla (3470mt.) 5/6 hrs. trek

Continue trek along the left bank until entering the gorges. Cross the small bridge then a natural bridge again to the left side, come over a bridge and until reaching a good bridge across the Yapola.  Three hours to Phenjila (a small village). Walk along the right bank until reaching village of Wanla. Cross the Bridge and to the camping place.

Day 14: Wanla – Prinkiti – la (3930mt.) – Lamayuru (3750mt.) – Leh , 4/5 hrs. trek. 4 hrs drive

Today the last leg of trek of this tour trek upto Shillakong along the right bank and cross the bridge come to left bank until reaching a Chorten (Stupa) then follow a dry and narrow gorge going up to Prinkiti-la 93930mt.) Walk down and cross Small River and towards the village of Lamayuru. Lamayuru has a famous ancient monastery. Monastery is Oldest in Ladakh regions and has big library of Buddhist literature. Reach Lamayuru you will be picked up & will be driven to Leh some 120 kms away. Reach Leh hotel check in relax & overnight.

Day 15: Leh Departure

Today tits time to say goodbye to Leh Ladakh. We will see you at Leh Airport to return your sweet home.
